About
One of the disadvantages of studying philosophy in college is that it turns you into a bit of a dilettante, someone who is interested in lots of things. That would be me in a nutshell. I’m interested in many things, obsessed with quite a few. In no particular order, this would include…
… eastern and western philosophy…
… martial arts, particularly Aikido…
… the quest for the personal experience of God (mysticism) no matter which culture it is found in (which explains how a conservative Catholic such as myself is fascinated by and quite impressed by Zen, Tibetan Buddhism and even many New Age spiritual teachers)…
… a few hardy sports like squash, tennis and skiing…
… libertarian economics and self-reliance…
… Internet marketing and technology…
… Biblical studies, particularly the Jewish background to the New Testament…
… the Hebrew language, of course, which I learned from two ulpanim I took in Israel…
… healthy and simple living, including daily walks on the beach with my lovely wife and esoteric pursuits like yoga and Aikido…
… the ocean and beach in all their glorious phases and moods…
… killing tomato plants in large numbers (this year I’m up to 50)…
… among other things.
Such eclectic interests mean I have an unusual life. I live close by the beach and cobble together a living as an author, writer, Internet marketer, blogging teacher, website designer, consultant and “coach.” My wife and I have homeschooled five children (until junior or senior high school, depending on the kid) and live in a quiet, seaside community on the west coast.
