How to Be a Successful Author
Yes, yes… I am… drum roll, please… a “published” author. That sounds impressive, but someone once calculated how much the average author makes per hour when you factor in the time it takes to write, publish and market the book. It worked out to substantially less than minimum wage.
Still, you can make money writing books. My very first book advance was for $50,000… and I sold it on the basis of a three-sentence email. That doesn’t sound like much, but back when I was first married the money really came in handy. (Luckily, I had a fancy New York agent at ICM who really helped.)
